Balducci Self Levitation
The Balducci Levitation is an illusion that can be performed almost anywhere, anytime. The performer stands at a distance of 2-3 feet away from the spectator and then slowly starts to ascends and thus begins to leave the ground base. His spectator can clearly see him in the air without the aid of any visual support and then after couple of seconds the performer crashes back to the ground. This is one of the best impromtu levitation ever devised and also was performed in a magic special by DAVID BLAINE himself.
Now this clip will explain exactly how to make yourself float like Balducci. Including 6 bits of expert advice.
King Levitation
In looks and effect, King Levitation beats the Balducci Levitation, but the Balducci wins for over-all do-it-anywhere-any-time action. It is totally impromptu and has the same anytime any place nature.

David Copperfield Laser Illusion
Did you ever want to be David Copperfield and cut yourself in half and walk down the street and scare people? Well, now you can at a fraction of the cost. (And time to build the illusion) Give someone a laser pen and ask if they saw the Copperfield special. You did? I can do that. Pick up a board "for protection" and hand someone a laser pen and turn it on. Ask them to slice you across the waist to be careful not to hit anyone else. The laser cuts through you and the board and the audience slowly sees your top half SLIDE OFF OF THE BOTTOM HALF!
Performance:
The Secret:
How To Do It Yourself:
The coolest part of this illusion is that you actually cut yourself in half! So, the next time someone asks if you can cut a person in half you can say, "Yeah, me!"
The coolest part of this illusion is that you actually cut yourself in half! So, the next time someone asks if you can cut a person in half you can say, "Yeah, me!"
The gimmick can be made in about ten minutes with stuff you already have around the house.
Needed: A T-shirt made of strong material. Not just 50/50 cotton and it should not fit very tight or very lose on you – it should fit you well. You also need:
- A pair of scissors
- A board measuring 20 x24 (or two boards each 20x12 with a hinge) Paint a line down the center of the 24” dimension and paint one side black and the other side white.
To build – Take your scissors and cut a straight line from the base of the sleeve to the end of the shirt on both sides. The cut should be so that if you we were wearing the shirt and had your arms straight at your sides, the cuts would be invisible.
PRESENTATION: In presentation, this would be assuming you were performing street magic and your board was off to the side. You would be wearing a larger shirt or jacket to cover the cuts in the shirt and your shirt would be tucked in to prevent “swinging.”
When you are ready to perform the illusion; grab your board and cover your mid-drift section. Remove the jacket and un-tuck your shirt (being careful).
Now, stand so that your audience sees your profile (from the left or right) and hold your board so that the small dimension is covering the slit in your shirt, wedged right under your arm pit and being held by your hand on the outside. The board should also be about center on your stance.
Now for the effect, (and this will take slow practice) lean forward so that you look as though your top half is sliding forward off of your pants. The audience should see your shirt “swing forward” but to them it will look as though you are in the shirt coming into view. The two colors of the board will help create an optical illusion of your center of gravity and assist your viewers in believing you are separated.
Be careful not to:
- Slide too far and expose your back leaning
- Tilt or slant your neck – keep it straight with your shoulders.

David Blaine Voodoo Ash Trick
Effect: The spectator writes a name on a page in a notepad. The spectator then tears out the page, crumples it up and places it in an ashtray. The paper is set alight and the magician then rubs the ashes on his arm, on which the name written by the spectator, mysteriously appears.
Preparation: You will need a small notepad, pen, ashtray, lighter and a small piece of soap or wax.
Method: The spectator is asked to write either a name or favourite anything of their choice on a notepad. They are then asked to tear out the page, crumple it up and place it in the ashtray. The magician then sets the paper alight. At this point the magician should take the notepad from the spectator. If looked at closely, it should be possible to see an imprint of the spectators written word on the top page of the notepad. ( It should not be made obvious that the magician has been looking at the notepad..) Then subtely, perhaps by using a little misdirection, the word should be written on the magicians arm by himself using the soft soap or wax. ( Again, this action should not be visible or obvious to anyone.)
The magician can then take some of the ashes and rub them on his arm where the ash will stick to the soap or wax and the name become visible to the astonishment of the audience.
This is a great trick but depends o the magician creating an atmosphere with an entertaining routine and patter about black magic to enhance the trick and create misdirection to allow himself an opportunity to pull off the trick.
Amazing Wild Card Bend
This is an excellent card
trick where a spectator is seen to randomly pick a playing card
from the deck. The magician then holds the card out in front of
the spectator and it is seen to bend back and forward at will.
This easy card trick is visually stunning and is a good ice breaker.

David Blaine And The Balducci Levitation
Effect: The magician raises his arms up by his sides and slowly appears to rise a few inches off the ground for a little while before returning to earth quickly.
Balducci Method: The Balducci method involves positioning your audience about 8 to 10 feet away at a 45 degree angle .You need to keep your audience small so they are within this field of sight.
This is a very restrictive angle trick and it is essential that the angles are practiced, preferably with a friend or in front of a mirror.
The Balducci levitation involves pretending to float off the ground by going on to your tip toes on just one foot ( the one furthest from their view ) while the nearest foot is raised a little off the ground.
This looks fantastic as the foot on your tip toe is hidden by your trousers, the nearest foot and the angle they are watching at. You only rise a few inches off the ground but the impression is fantastic. This trick is all in the presentation with you appearing to rise slowly, wait for a second or two and then return to the ground quickly so as the audience do not have time to figure the trick out.
The picture here shows the beginning on the left and the climax of the trick on the right .
David Blaine Version : David Blaine used various camera shots in his TV special with the audience reaction being filmed close up and linked to other clips of him in mid air with some of the angles showing the Balducci levitation .
The view that shows him rise a good few inches in the air and does not show the audience, would possibly have been done with a bar attached to a pivot like a seesaw.
The end of the pivot could have had a hook which clipped onto a harness attached to his belt and a member of the crew would have pushed down on the other side of the bar lifting David up in the air. The camera angle would have hidden the props.
This film would have been mixed in with the audience clips in the studios later.

He is pulled up by a flying object by wires.Actually the camera is not looking just above Criss,it's only showing the sides.
The main thing is that the people standing around him are pretending to be total strangers but they are prearranged by Criss.
The cables are not seen because they are very thin aircraft cables and the video is on a very sunny place.
